Southwinds’ held its 8th Annual Charity Golf Outing Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Southpointe Golf Club. It was a crisp, cool morning with a few spotty showers but that did not stop 87 golfers from hitting the greens in support of the individuals served by Southwinds!! 
 
This year two of Southwinds friends, Gerry and Harold volunteered to help drive the Horizon Properties, Group, LLC and the Maher Duessel, Certified Public Accountants sponsored beverage carts. Harold lives in our Kiefer home in Upper St. Clair and Gerry lives in our Norma home in Baldwin. Harold was an old pro at this having volunteered last year to ride shot gun in the beverage carts so he gave Gerry a few pointers when it came to riding with Executive Director, Stacey Kubala!! 
 
As the day wore on, the clouds parted and the golfers were having a sunshine filled afternoon of golf. The event was capped off with a dinner and awards program as well as featuring both a silent and live auction. 
 
This year we also honored a long time Southwinds supporter, Walter Spotte. Walter’s daughter Nara came to live at Southwinds in 1986. In 2006, Nara’s parents Walter and Dottie honored her passing with the creation of The Nara Spotte Recreation Fund. This fund allows Southwinds’ individuals to enjoy all types of recreational activities that include Pirate games as well as holiday parities. Walter thank you for your continued support and helping us to empower the individuals that we serve by providing them with a place to call home! Each year the 1st place team will have their names engraved on the Walter Spotte Tribute Award.
